Extreme Dome Makeover Taking over Canton
Monday, August 13, 2012
CANTON, Mo.—Culver-Stockton College’s students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members are preparing for the fourth annual Extreme Dome Makeover. On Saturday, August 18, volunteers will spend the day improving their community by painting, landscaping and removing trash all over Canton, Mo.
There are 11 work sites planned, with 250-300 volunteers expected to participate. The emphasis of this year’s efforts is placed on overall community improvement. Projects include painting Canton’s Recycling Center and City Hall, raking and planting grass on the town’s new river walkway, and beautifying the Canton Community Garden. Individual community members' houses are also to be included in the makeover efforts. Makeover recipients were chosen from community nominations.
Extreme Dome Makeover is just one way that Culver-Stockton has integrated hands-on experiences into their curriculum. “Our motto at C-SC is ‘Do Something Different.’ What makes the Extreme Dome Makeover exciting is that it gives us a chance to ‘Do Something that Makes a Difference.’ We are extra excited because this year, the community is more involved than ever,” says Dean of Student Life Chris Gill. “This project fits very well into Culver-Stockton’s mission statement. A student of promise will be a leader of promise and what better way to prepare our future leaders than by providing them a way to give back to their communities.”
