Culver-Stockton College was ranked 34 by U.S. News & World Report in the Best Regional Colleges in the Midwest category. This ranking follows two other recent accolades: admittance on the 2012 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction and ranking 20 in the nation for baccalaureate colleges by Washington Monthly Magazine.

The U.S. News & World Report divided the nation’s colleges and universities into various categories, such as National Universities and Regional Colleges. This was done so consumers could evaluate comparable institutions. Culver-Stockton was in the Regional Colleges category, in the Midwest division. Twelve states were considered in the Midwest division: Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Six measures of quality with various weights were used to determine the overall score. For example, the two factors that had the largest effect on the overall score for Regional Colleges were peer assessment and graduation & retention rates, each category producing 25 percent of the overall score. The remaining parts of the final score were derived by 20 percent faculty resources, 15 percent student selectivity, 10 percent financial resources and 5 percent alumni giving.

“This had been a wonderful year for third party endorsements. The recognition we have been receiving helps to solidify our standing and really indicates the direction Culver-Stockton is heading,” says Richard Valentine, president of the college. “The attention we have received from third parties is not our goal, but it is a nice result of our hard work and dedication to excellence.”
