Two Illinois students rule over C-SC 2008 Homecoming Court
Two Illinois students ruled over the 2008 Culver-Stockton College Homecoming Oct. 3-5 as king and queen. Alison Schmidt, daughter of Dennis and Tammy Schmidt of Alton, Ill, was selected as Homecoming queen. She is a senior English education major and a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Schmidt has served as a Wildcat Welcome Guide and is currently a member of the C-SC “Up ‘Til Dawn Executive Board,” working to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Crowned Homecoming king was Grant Stephenson, son of Greg and Sue Ellen Stephenson, Canton, Ill. Stephenson is a senior majoring in history and math education. He also has served as a Wildcat Welcome Guide and a member of the Campus Programming Council. Stephenson is former president of the C-SC Fellowship of Christian Athletes. C-SC to host rally against domestic violence
The Culver-Stockton College Health Outreach Peer Educators (HOPE) are partnering with Avenues of Hannibal, Mo., to host a “Take Back the Night” rally against domestic and sexual violence at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, outside the Gladys Crown Center. “Take Back the Night” is an internationally held march and rally intended as a protest and direct action against rape and other forms of violence against women, originally started by the feminist movement. The rally will include a candle-light vigil with speakers. The event will also serve as a start for HOPE’s “Dirty Laundry Project,” a display of clothing items with stories of violence written or otherwise portrayed on them by individuals who have experienced violence in their own lives or have loved ones that have experienced acts of violence. “Dirty Laundry” will be on display through the end of October. "Brown Bag" explores nursing careers
Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing will be sponsoring "Nursing Can Really Take You Places," a brown bag event, on Tuesday, October 14, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Meaders Lounge. Neal Tex, RN, will be speaking about his exciting career as a "travel nurse," which has taken him to St. Louis, Mo.; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Salem, Ore.; and presently Blessing Hospital. Bring your own lunch and join us in Meaders Lounge. BRCN faculty will be available if you have questions about your journey to the career of nursing. Those attending will be eligible for door prizes. "Business Leadership Exchange" to begin October 14
Three Business Leadership Exchange lectures will be held this fall on the Culver-Stockton College campus, with two during "Business Ethics Week," October 13-17. On October 14, at 11:30 a.m. in Merillat Chapel, "Why Smart People Do Such Dumb Things" will be given by Patrick Kuhse, international speaker, as the first in the series of lectures. Kuhse, a former stockbroker, entrepreneur, financial planner, and fugitive for illegal business practices, travels to colleges across the nation telling his story. He tries to inspire and protect the next generation of young business men and women from making the same mistakes he once did. On October 16, at 11:30 a.m. in Merrilat Chapel, Ron Leftwich, former treasurer for the Shell Oil Corporation will present "International Finance Adventures." Leftwich received a bachelor's degree in business and economics from Culver-Stockton College in 1964. He retired in 2002 as treasurer from Shell Oil Company after nearly 39 years with the company. He is a member of the Sigma Epsilon fraternity and has been a member of the Culver-Stockton Board of Trustees since 1990. Steve Mulch, a C-SC alum and president of Veritas Training Group, will speak on "How to Sell Yourself" at 7:30 p.m. on November 10 in Merillat Chapel. Mulch founded Veritas Training Group after experiencing 25 successful years in the corporate world. Veritas Training Group is affiliated with D.E.I. Management Group and is one of the nation's leading sales training companies. All lectures are ACE events and are free and open to the public.

C-SC dedicates classroom to alumnus Thomas J. Hartigan
Culver-Stockton College President William Fox led a ceremony October 3 to dedicate Room 204, in the Herrick Foundation Center in honor of alumnus Thomas J. Hartigan. The event was attended by C-SC accounting students, faculty, and staff as well as friends and family members of Hartigan, including his widow Mary (Smith) Hartigan, a member of the C-SC class of 1954. Hartigan graduated from C-SC in 1953 with a bachelor's of science degree in business administration. He owned T.H.E. Swimwear, Huntington Park, Calif. Hartigan died in October 2005. C-SC students nominated for KCACTF acting scholarship competition
Four Culver-Stockton College students have been nominated to compete in the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship auditions at Region V of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) 41 in January 2009. They were selected based on their performances in C-SC's most recent productions, Dinner with Friends and Rabbit Hole. Read the full story online.
