Turn off the lights. This is such a simple thing to do, but sometimes it’s so hard to remember! If you can put little stickers near the light switches you leave on the most often, reminding everyone to turn them off when they leave the room. |

The Sutherland Award recognizes the Panhellenic Council with the highest percentage of achievement in eight programming categories, including: academic achievement, council management, leadership and educational development, membership recruitment, philanthropy and community service, public relations, risk reduction and management, and self governance and judicial affairs. The Panhellenic Council serves as the governing body for the three national sororities on the Culver-Stockton campus. Ryan Elizabeth Hilperts, Director of Awards and Assessment for the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values stated, "I am so proud of the Culver-Stockton Panhellenic Council for winning this award. They should feel very honored as they were one of ten councils that applied and all the applications were great! This is also their second consecutive year winning this award; what a great accomplishment." Culver-Stockton also received the Jellison Award in Interfraternity Council Division I. The award recognizes the interfraternity council with the highest percentage of achievement in eight programming categories. Those categories are: academic achievement, council management, leadership and educational development, membership recruitment, philanthropy and community service, public relations, risk reduction and management, and self governance and judicial affairs. The Interfraternity Council of Culver-Stockton College is the student organization responsible for upholding the standards, values and roles of the fraternity community and its individual chapters. “We are very proud of the fraternity and sorority community here at Culver-Stockton College; and the awards they have received this past weekend are well deserved," commented Bob Dudolski, C-SC assistant dean of student life. "The student leaders within our fraternities and sororities have provided great leadership and service to our college and surrounding communities. The Culver-Stockton College fraternities and sororities continue to provide a strong values-based experience for their individual members and the campus community.” Culver-Stockton College has an active and popular Greek community; with more than 40 percent of students choosing to join a sorority or fraternity. There are four national fraternity chapters and three national sorority chapters active on the C-SC campus.
C-SC assistant professor keynote speaker at literary and cinema celebration
Culver-Stockton College Assistant Professor of History Dr. Scott Giltner will be the keynote speaker the 22nd Annual Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration held Feb. 24 through 27 in Natchez, Miss. The theme of the celebration is "Field of Dreams: Sports in the South". Giltner’s address, “Hunting, Fishing and Race After the Civil War,” is scheduled for Thursday, February 24 at 1 p.m. The presentation was drawn from Giltner’s book “Hunting and Fishing in the New South: Black Labor and White Leisure After the Civil War” (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008). The address will examine how the Civil War changed the way hunting and fishing were perceived in the South. Giltner’s book was inspired by interviews with former slaves that he read while in grad school, in which they discussed those activities that are for some sport, and for others a means of survival. Dr. Scott Giltner is an assistant professor of history at Culver-Stockton College. He received his Bachelor of Arts in history from Hiram College in 1996, his Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998 and 2005, respectively. Giltner joined the faculty of Culver-Stockton College in 2005 and currently teaches courses in American history and historical methods. His research deals with conflicts between Southern blacks and whites over competing notions of proper subsistence and land use. Giltner is the author of “Hunting and Fishing in the New South: Black Labor and White Leisure after the Civil War” (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008) and "Slave Hunting and Fishing in the Antebellum South," in “To Love the Wind and the Rain: African Americans and Environmental History” (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2005).
