ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Students develop a mastery of writing, critical thinking and researching skills. English majors gain comprehensive experience in the discipline, including classic to contemporary literature, research and writing, while also having the opportunity to focus on their particular interests and work one-on-one with faculty members who specialize in those areas. Outside-of-class and internship experiences provide students with the chance to explore a wide range of career possibilities, including public relations, publishing and library science.
WHY SHOULD I MAJOR IN ENGLISH?
English is the perfect major for students who love books and reading and want to know more about the forms, history and functions of literature. English also is a great major for anyone interested in language, writing, the history of ideas, the questions that have always challenged and fascinated humans, and in the interaction of history, philosophy, religion, psychology, art and the other major disciplines. The development of analytical thinking, evidence-based writing and editing skills makes English not only an extremely marketable major but a perfect minor for all other majors.
